E’ forse un po’ troppo presto per dirlo ma, almeno stando a quello che dice Gizmodo, sembra che gli ingegneri Apple non abbiano fatto un lavoro così eccelso. Certo, il nuovo iPhon è un pezzo di designe industriale degno di nota, ma il fatto di avere creato un telefono in cui la parte anteriore e posteriore sono in vetro, per quanto resistente possa essere, non è stata un’idea eccellente. Chi ha iPhone 3 avrà notato che difficilmente succede qualcosa quando cade a terra, ma sarà vero anche con il nuovo?
Gizmodo sottolinea il fatto che un buon design deve anche essere duraturo e fare un oggetto in vetro non è certo il miglior modo per renderlo duraturo. Uno dei loro iPhone, caduto accidentalmente, si è rotto immediatamente. Ecco cosa dice una persona che lavora per un’azienda di orologi che usa la stessa fabbrica di Apple per quanto riguarda i vetri.
I saw your article about the glass scratches on the iPhone 4. I work for [a major watch company] that uses the same Chinese factory [as Apple’s]. We had a huge problem with a similar “chemically treated” glass from the same manufacturer.
The glass passed all of our tests. Drop tests, steel ball impact tests, etc. but the glass started chipping and we couldnt figure out why.
Eventually we found that when the glass was hit against another piece of glass of similar strength they both broke very easily. I would be willing to bet money that if you took 2 iphone 4’s and tap the glass edges together with light to moderate force you would get an instant chip on the edge. We found this same problem when the watches were hit onto a glass coffee table, or hit into a glass door when entering a shop.
Altri due possibili problemi sono il fatto che il materiale stesso è più scivoloso dell’iPhone precedente e che gli angoli non arrotondati lo rendono più instabile nella mano.
Altro problema del design è l’antenna. Tenendo l’iPhone proprio come Apple mostra nei suoi annunci pubblicitari, si può quasi azzerare il segnale in ricezione e la cosa ridicola è che Apple ha risposto, dietro precisa richiesta, di tenere in telefono in un altro modo. Quantomeno ridicolo… Ecco la conclusione di Gizmodo:

This time, Dieter Rams won’t be happy, just like consumers won’t be happy when their iPhone’s back break or the signal drops just for holding it.
